Gordonia speciosa is a species of plant in the Theaceae family. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.
Leaves
oblong, thick, base tapered, obtuse apex, margins rolled down, pruplish and veinless beneath; sessile.
Trunk
Bark - smooth; Wood - red, hard; twigs glabrous.
Flowers
scarlet and showy, large, solitary.
Fruits
ovoid, smooth, five-angled capsule.
Ecoogy
montane and rain forest canopy.
Uses
ornamental; Bark - medicinal; Wood - light construction.
Culture
It is known as "රතු මිහිරිය - rathu mihiriya" in Sinhala.
