"Good Boy" is a song by Big Bang members G-Dragon and Taeyang. It was released on November 21, 2014 as the second overall hip-hop project from YG Entertainment, the first being "Niliria" with Missy Elliott a year prior.

Background

YG Entertainment announced two new hip hop projects. The first artist they announced was G-Dragon on November 17,[2] and the second artist was Taeyang on November 18.[3] Photo and video teasers were later released.[4]

Music video

The music video was directed by Colin Tilley. Less than 24 hours after it was released via BIGBANG's official YouTube channel, the video accumulated over 2 million views. The video went on to be featured as a YouTube Music Moment for the 2015 YouTube Music Awards.

Critical reception

"Good Boy" received generally favorable reviews. The song was dubbed an "amazing club song". Fuse called the song one of the best 10 songs of November 2014, stating: "[It is a] huge EDM/hip hop banger that feels like the next 'Turn Down for What'".[5] It also ranked in Fuse's 41 Best Songs of 2014 at number 15.[6] Billboard gave a positive review, stating: "[G-Dragon & Taeyang are] at the top of the vocal, rap and dance game in one of the year's most epic club tracks."[7]

Chart performance

"Good Boy" secured top positions on Korean subdivision charts like Genie, Mnet, Olleh Music, among others.[8] The song also reached number 1 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart,[9] marking the third time a Korean act had topped the chart after PSY and 2NE1.
