Godzilla Junior (ゴジラジュニア Gojira Junia) is a kaiju first appearing in Toho's 1993 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.

Overview

Godzilla Junior first appeared in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II as an egg. Presuming it to be a Pteranodon egg, a scientific team unearthed it from Adona Island and shipped it to Japan for study. The egg displayed strange psychic properties, even imprinting itself upon the biologist Azusa Gojo, before finally hatching to reveal an infant Godzillasaurus, who is named Baby Godzilla. He was a harmless creature with teeth suitable only for chewing soft plant material. When Godzilla later appeared, having sought out Baby through an unexplained psychic link, Baby left with Godzilla, later settling on Birth Island.

By the time of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Baby, who by now had grown to almost a third of Godzilla's height; (probably due to exposure to Godzilla's radiation). Now known as Little Godzilla, he interacted periodically with the human characters for a portion of the film, taking a particular liking to Major Yuki of G-Force and establishing a psychic bond with Miki Saegusa. Little Godzilla was injured and imprisoned in a cage of crystals by SpaceGodzilla upon his arrival to Earth and remained caged until SpaceGodzilla's defeat by the combined might of Godzilla and M.O.G.U.E.R.A.

Little Godzilla continued to grow and is named Godzilla Junior in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He had reached nearly half Godzilla's height, and he looked much like his adoptive father; aside from far smaller spines. Junior quickly proved himself to be quite a capable fighter, successfully defeating Destoroyah, though with difficulty. Junior is killed during his second battle against Destoroyah at Haneda Airport, where Godzilla and Destoroyah soon fought. After Godzilla melts down, Junior is revived and grows into a new Godzilla. This version of Junior had a brief cameo appearance from stock footage in the opening credits of Godzilla: Final Wars.

Unlike his father, Junior has a kind disposition, even when older. Like Minilla, he is more friendly than Godzilla, seen playing with children in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II and saving Miki from Destroyah.
