The Glasgow and Milngavie Junction Railway was a Scottish railway. It extended the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway from Westerton to Milngavie, Glasgow.[1]

History

The line was authorised on 1 August 1861 in an act obtained by the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway;[1] and it opened in 1863.[2][3] It was operated from the start by the North British Railway (NBR); and was absorbed into the NBR by an Act of Parliament dated 28 July 1873.[1]

Current operations

Passenger services currently operate as part of the Argyle Line (to Motherwell) and North Clyde Line to (Edinburgh Waverley via Airdrie) services, giving good connections to both main city centre stations. The spurs to the goods depots at Burnbrae Dye Works and Ellangowan Mills are closed.
