Girlhood (French: Bande de filles) is a 2014 French drama film directed by Céline Sciamma. It was screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.[3] The film was also screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.[4] It won the TVE Another Look Award at the 62nd San Sebastián International Film Festival[5] and the Special Jury Prize at the Philadelphia Film Festival.[6] The film was also nominated for the European Parliament Lux Prize.[7][8]

Production

The casting process took four months.[9] Actresses were scouted from the street for the film.[10]

Reception

The film received generally positive reviews from critics. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 92% rating based on 39 reviews.[11] Metacritic reports an 86/100 rating based on 17 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[12]

The Guardian described the film as "a work of cinematic art".[13]
