"Will Gets a Girlfriend" is the fourth episode of the first series of The Inbetweeners. It first aired on 15 May 2008 on E4.

Plot

The episode opens with the boys at a party, which turns out to be painfully boring, with Will's narrating heavily implying that the other guests, in terms of social status are either equal to or slightly above the boys. Just as they are about to leave, they hear a rumour that the beautiful and popular Charlotte "Big Jugs" Hinchcliffe will soon arrive. The gang are thrilled, as Charlotte is known for her high social status and promiscuous ways (Jay exaggerates reports of her promiscuity, however, claiming she had sexual encounters with the school's rugby team- despite their school not featuring a rugby team). Upon her arrival, Will unintentionally opens a bottle of champagne Charlotte had brought along, but she kindly invites him to share it with her. They chat and seem to get along very well. Simon, Neil and Jay are awed and outraged that Will managed to speak to her. Jay attempts to lure Charlotte away but his appalling impression of The Crazy Frog only serves to annoy her. Will and Charlotte move upstairs and begin kissing in a bedroom, but the experience is short-lived as Charlotte's ex-boyfriend (and Will's biggest antagonist), Mark Donovan, interrupts and fails to win Charlotte back. Mark leaves, but warns Will to treat Charlotte with respect. as she is 'kind and gentle and fragile' before threatening to kill Will if he tells anyone of the conversation.[2]

The next day Will lies and brags to Charlotte about how many girls he has had sex with, and she suggests they meet up again for more than just a kiss. Will tells his friends about this, but Simon tells Will that Charlotte is obviously just using him to spite Mark - leading to Will insulting him and storming off. Friday comes and Will and Charlotte engage in unsuccessful "intercourse", with the latter being let down by the experience, and Will unsure if he really has lost his virginity. It is revealed that Will is no longer keeping company with the other three boys, following his argument with Simon in which it is implies Jay agrees with Simon's theory (Neil appeared indifferent). In a sub-plot, Jay gets teased by the rest of the boys for having a friend outside of the group(which had begun in the party of the first scene) and even a special goodbye gesture of two thumbs up, leading to him finding this friend's car and jumping repeatedly on the bonnet, screaming that he's not his friend, whilst Neil and Simon look on in shock.

Will however still believes Charlotte is his girlfriend and tells the socially inept Big John about their relationship. After Neil wins an unwanted date with Susie, an extremely clever yet somewhat awkward, unpopular student, at the school's charity Blind Date, Will realizes he and Charlotte are no longer an item when Charlotte takes part in the same blind date in an effort to find a boy "who knows what he's doing". Will is humiliated and depressed by his rejection from Charlotte and is remorseful of his own rejection of the other three due to the previous argument regarding Charlotte's ulterior motive. In the midst of his depression Simon and an uncharacteristically sympathetic Jay arrive at Will's door to comfort their friend following his rejection from Charlotte. They immediately reconcile and agree to spy on Neil during his date with Susie. On their way to the area, Will's voice over narration concludes the episode and Will, Simon and Jay make their way to Neil's date before the credits roll, clearly establishing they are friends again.
