Giovanni Battista Cassevari

Giovanni Battista Cassevari (1789–1876) was an Italian painter, born in Genoa. As a boy, he attended the academy of Benvenuti (painter) in Florence. After having taken part in the wars of 1813-14, and been present at the battle at Paris, he returned to Turin and Genoa, and in 1824 went to Florence and Rome. In these cities he painted a great number of miniature portraits. The portraits in oil afterwards executed by him in England are painted in the style of the Italian and Dutch masters. Buckner (painter) and Crispini (painter) were his pupils. a 'Madonna and Child' for the church at Frosini.
