The Ghetto Boys are a street gang based in New Cross Lewisham and Deptford, South London.[1] The gang was formed on the Woodpecker Estate and its members are primarily of Black British origin. Most of the members hail from the London Borough of Lewisham. Members are thought to be as young as 12.[2]
History
The conflict between the Ghetto Boys and rival Peckham boys in 2006 drew widespread press coverage. Most of them are in prison.[3] It is thought that the conflict between the two gangs had been ongoing for over 20 years,[4] although it has now ceased.
Some members of the gang are known to carry arms such as MAC-10 machine pistols.[5] A member of the Ghetto Boys fired a shot at the 2004 Urban Music Awards, injuring accountant Hellen Kelly. The bullet hit the underwire in her bra, preventing fatal injury.[6] The notorious Ghetto Boys were known to have a leader of Nigerian Descent, by the name of Andrew Wanogho known as Sparks to the Ghetto Boys and Shower Gang. He had a fierce reputation, where he was known to drop out of school at the age of 13. When he was in young offenders he was known to have the ability to knock out a fully grown man at just 16, which is why he got the nickname Sparks. He was also a talented boxer in the community known as "the assassin" in the boxing ring. Andrew Wanogho, or Sparks, is now deceased, killed in a honey trap killing at the age of 26 in 2006. There are now several leaders known as generals, who go by the names Craver (who is now serving a lengthy prison sentence), his younger brother Raskal (whose first name is Nicolas, and who is the street elder to grime artist Little Dee/Young Raskal), Hyper (of Jamaican descent, who is in prison for killing an entire family), Croozer (of Nigerian descent), Dramah (of Jamaican descent), Rosco, Dinky (who is also a Young Hyper), Affecta (who goes by the UK Rap name Fekky, and who is of Nigerian descent), Young Affecta (Who is a younger brother to Fekky, who calls himself Y.F/Young Fekky), Buggsey, Skills, Ruffie (of Brocktown), Creamz (of Brockley and Turnham), Boxer (whose first name is Alex, and who is a Turnham Gangs general).
Clothing
The Ghetto Boys are known to identify with the colour blue. This is usually represented by blue bunting, worn around the neck or wrist. The colour blue relates to the Lewisham Borough in which the gang is based, which is associated with the colour blue and is also known as 'Blue Borough'.
