The Ghanashyama Hemalata Institute of Technology and Management (GHITM) is a private institute located in outside the city of Puri, in the Indian state of Orissa. GHITM has one school and one college, containing a total of four academic departments, with a strong emphasis on study and research. GHITM is affiliated with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The Institute is located on National Highway 203, popularly known as Marine Drive, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Puri. The campus is spread over approximately 152 acres (62 ha) of picturesque land on the eastern shore of the Bay of Bengal. The aim of the Institute is to strive for excellence in the field of technical education. It is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education in New Delhi.

History
As a result of his hard labour, dedication and clear vision, Chairman Sj. Ghanashyam Jena is a pioneer in the field of the Trade Union movement in India. Sj Jena is the founder of All India Food Corporation of India Workers Union, founding president of Paradip Port and Dock Majdoor Union, the All India Food and Allied Workers Union and the All India Petroleum Products Handling and Carrier Employees Union. He is also the Founder Chairman of FCI Workers Co-op. Credit Society Ltd. and the Ghanashyam Hemalata Vidyamandira Society (GHVS), the mother of all its educational institutions. Sj. Jena, because of his close association with the working-class people, could visualize that lack of proper education is the root of all the sufferings of human being. Sj. Jena decided to establish some organization to educate the children of working-class people and thus took birth of the GHVM, an educational and charitable organization. Initially starting with a residential school at Puri, now the society boasts of the ownership of chain of schools apart from GHITM. All the institutions have been financed and patronized by the workers belonging to the various aforesaid union, and thus the GHITM may be the only of its kind in the country to have been founded by the hard-earned money of the working-class people of India.
Scholarships
The Institute has provision of awarding Merit-cum-Means Scholarships to the undergraduate students who fulfill the criteria laid down by the institute. Some commercial banks and companies have offered financial assistance in the form of sponsorship and awards to some of the meritorious students of the Institute. A large number of cash awards are given to the students to motivate them to do well not only in academics but also in sports & extracurricular activities. A cash prize is given to the students who secure highest aggregate marks in GHITM at the end of each year in the University examination. The best student of the college is also suitably rewarded.
Hostel
Most of the students of the Institute have been lodged in hostels in the campus, and are separated by gender. These hostels are equipped with modern amenities and facilities for sports and recreation such as television, indoor games, and a gymnasium. Facilities for outdoor games like volleyball, cricket and football are available. Soon the boarders are going to avail internet connection in the hostel.
A round-the-clock canteen is in operation to cater to the needs of the students. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food are available in the hostels. Each hostel has a warden to look after the welfare of the students. The overall administration of the hostels is looked after by the Hostel Management Committee. The GHITM Guest House provides accommodation to Institute guests, visiting faculty and guardians of students.
Health care
Medical facilities are provided to the staff and students of the Institute through the health clinic inside the campus. The Institute currently has one medical officer who visits twice a week, who is a good specialist. Two pharmacists are there to provide medical care round the clock . Patients requiring indoor treatment are referred to the Puri Hospital where modern facilities for treatment are available.
