Georges Matheron Lectureship

The Georges Matheron Lectureship[1] is an annual award given by the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG)[2][3] to "a scientist with proven research ability in the field of spatial statistics or mathematical morphology". The award was established[4] in 2006 by the IAMG in recognition of the French mathematician and geologist Georges François Paul Marie Matheron,[5][6] known as the founder of spatial statistics and a co-founder (together with Jean Serra) of mathematical morphology. The Georges Matheron Lecture is given at the IAMG Annual Conference. It is given every year if an eligible and worthy nominee is found. The lecturer receives a plaque. The first recipient of the award was Jean Serra, Co-Founder of Mathematical Morphology, of Centre of Mathematical Morphology, Fontainebleau, and he delivered Matheron Lecture at the Annual Meeting in Liège, Belgium in 2006.[7] The Matheron Lectures Committee, chaired by a Vice President of IAMG[8] seeks nominations and makes the selection.
