Early life
George Barnett was born in Rugby, Warwickshire on 11 December 1993. He began to learn the piano and drums at an early age and later progressed to other instruments. Music career
2010–14: Career beginnings
Barnett began recording his own material in 2010, playing all the instruments on his Sierra Planes EP. His first full-length album 17 Days was then released as a free download from The Pirate Bay in March 2012.[5] A compiled collection of songs released throughout 2011 when he released one song every seventeen days,[6] 17 Days was successful among file-sharing forums.[7] Barnett played all instruments on the album. Where The Devil Sleeps EP followed in December 2012, highlighting an increased baroque and rock influence.[8]
Barnett's mixtape The Red Tape was released for free in September 2013,[9] sampling elements from the soundtrack to the 2012 movie Beasts of the Southern Wild and spoken word excerpts from The Perks of Being A Wallflower.[10] He then went on tour with fellow singer-songwriters Frank Hamilton and Orla Gartland and finished his third EP, mixing in hotel rooms as the tour progressed.[11] Soon after, a new song Animal Keeper debuted on BBC Radio 1. On 6 March 2015, he released the first song in his First Friday series entitled Inertia.[12] On 11 March BBC Introducing played Inertia.[13] Soon after on 3 April he released the single "Hanging By A Thread", the second in his First Friday series. On 4 April "Hanging By A Thread" recived it's BBC Radio premier.[14]
