George Ballantyne (27 May 1952[1]) born in Leeds, is a professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s, '70s and '80s, playing at representative level for Yorkshire, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity (Heritage #754), and Castleford, as a Prop, or Second-row i.e. number 8 or 10, or 11 or 12, in the era of contested scrums.[2][3]
Playing career

George Ballantyne won caps for Yorkshire while at Wakefield Trinity against Cumberland at Bramley's stadium 1973, and playing Left-Prop, i.e. number 8 while at Castleford in the 7-23 defeat by Lancashire at Widnes' stadium on 27 September 1978.[4]
Club career
George Ballantyne made his début playing Left-Second-row, i.e. number 11 for Wakefield Trinity in the 14-23 defeat to Hull Kingston Rovers at Belle Vue, Wakefield on Monday 27 January 1969, he was transferred from Wakefield Trinity to Castleford in 1978 for a then Castleford club record fee of £11,000 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £83,230 in 2013).[5]
Genealogical information
George Ballantyne is the younger brother of Paul Ballantyne (birth registered October→December 1948 (age 66–67) in Leeds district), and Pauline Ballantyne (birth registered July→September 1950 (age 64–65) in Leeds district), and the older brother of June Ballantyne (birth registered April→June 1957 (age 57–58) in Leeds district), and is the grandfather of the Prop for Leeds Rhinos (Scholarship), Hunslet Parkside Hawks, Wakefield Trinity (Under-20s), James Healey.[6][7]
