Geology of Djibouti

The geology of Djibouti consists largely Miocene to Holocene volcanic rocks around which are more recent alluvial deposits with coral on the coast. The Jurassic age Amba Aradam Sandstones are to be found in the southeast of the country.[1]

Djibouti has scant economically important geological resources though salt production is carried out at Lake Assal and helps to make the country Africa’s tenth largest salt producer. Gypsum and diatomite are also to be found.[2]
