Gemma Bovery is a 2014 French drama film based on the 1999 graphic novel by Posy Simmonds of the same name. Directed by Anne Fontaine, the film stars Gemma Arterton, Jason Flemyng, Mel Raido and Fabrice Luchini.[3] The film premiered in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2014.[4]
Synopsis
Martin, an ex-Parisian well-heeled hipster passionate about Gustave Flaubert who settled into a village in the Norman as a baker, sees an English couple moving into a small farm nearby. Not only are the names of the new arrivals Gemma and Charles Bovery, but their behavior also seems to be inspired by Flaubert's heroes. Martin engages with the young couple and observes Gemma's behaviour to drift perilously into the fatalities that ruined Madame Bovary's life. He tries to interfere but sees fate develop.
