Geevarghese Divannasios Ottathengil

Geevarghese Divannasios Ottathengil (born on 1 November 1950, Anaprambal, India) is the incumbent Syro-Malankara Catholic bishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy of Puthur since 2010. His birth name is Geevarghese Ottathengil.

Biography

Geevarghese Ottathengil was born in the village of Anaprambal (Kerala State). In 1956 his family moved to Karnataka. In 1962 he and his family converted to the Catholic faith. After high school Ottathengil in 1966 began studying at the seminary. In 1970 he was sent to the seminary of Saint Paul in Tiruchchirappalli. On 20 April 1978 Geevarghese Ottathengil was ordained a priest by Benedict Mar Gregorios. In 1980 he was sent to Rome for further studies. His Post-doctoral work was in 1987, and after that he returned to Kerala and served as vicar priest in Kasaragode. In the same year he was appointed rector of the junior seminary of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Eparchy of Bathery. In May 1990 Ottathengil was appointed rector of a major seminary from Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. On 18 December 1996 Pope John Paul II appointed him new eparch of Bathery.[1] The ordination took place on 5 February 1997. In January 2010 Geevarghese Mar Divannasios led the newly created the Eparchy of Puthur.[2][3]
