Geetika Jakhar (born 18 August 1985) is an Indian wrestler. She started training in wrestling at school, encouraged by her father, and by 2014 won two medals at the Asian Games a silver at 2006 and a bronze at 2014.She also won Silver at 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She is the first women wrestler in the history of Indian sports to be awarded as the Best Wrestler of Commonwealth Games in 2005 by beating all women wrestlers competing in the games and in final she beat three times world champion of 67 kg Dugrenier, Martine (Canada) to get the best wrestler title. She also won Bharat Kesari for a record 9 times in a row, she is also Sr. National Champion in 63 kg from 2001 to 2008 but due to ACL surgery remained away from sports for 3 years for rehabilitation process and after returning from injury she again clinched national champion title in 2012. For her athletic achievements she was awarded the Bhim Award in 2003, the Arjuna Award in 2006, Rajiv Gandhi Award in 2007, Priyadarshni award for best sports women in 2009 and the Kalpana Chawla Excellence Award in 2009.She is the first Indian women wrestler to get Arjuna Award for wrestling. For her extraordinary achievements in the field of sports government of Haryana has appointed her to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police.[2]
Biography
Geetika was born in a jat family. Her father satyavir singh jakhar is a sports officer in hisar and her mother usha rani is a teacher. She was inspired to take up wrestling by her grand father who is also a wrestler of his times. She started wrestling at a age of 13 years, and became bharat kesari at a age of 15 by beating sonika kaliraman in final in dangal at New Delhi in 2000. She won Bharat Kesari Title (Strongest Women Title) for continuously 9 years.
Career
She started participating in sports from school level in athletics. But turning point came when her family moved from her village agroha to hisar for better education for her and her younger brother, but she was very passionate about sports so her fater took her to mahabir stadium hisar for better guidance but they never meet any coach for atheletics, when she was disappointedly coming back she saw other girls practicing wrestling in a nearby wrestling hall. She along with her father moved to the wrestling hall to see the game, she like the game and cooperative behaviour of the coaches present there. That was the time (oct 1998) when she choose wrestling as a sport and left athletics.In just a span of four months after started wrestling she represented haryana in manipur national games 1999 where she stood fourth, after then she never looked back and became sub-junior national champion in 2000. At a age of 15 she became the youngest wrestler to won Gold medal at All Edition of National Championship i.e Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior National. Which itself is a record unbroken.
1999
- Participated first in 31st National Games [Imphal,(Manipur)] at a young age of 13 years in 56 kg women freestyle and stood fourth.
- Won Gold Medal at State Games held at Bhiwani and declared Best Women Wrestler of Haryana.
2000
- Won Gold Medal at Sub -Junior National championship (2000) held at Talkatora Stadium New Delhi.
2001
- Won Gold Medal at Sub -Junior National championship.
- Won Gold Medal at Junior National championship.
- Won Gold Medal at Senior National championship held at Nedani (Jind, Haryana)
- Won Gold Medal at National Games held at Ludhiania (Punjab).
And became the first women wrestler to win Gold Medal at all age group (that is sub junior below 17 years, juniors below 20 years and seniors above 20 years) national championship and national games organised by wrestling federation of India as per FILA rules.
2002
- Participated in Sr. world championship held at New York, USA.
- Won Gold Medal at National Games held at Hyderabad (Andhra Pardesh).
- Won Gold Medal at Senior National championship.
2003
- Won silver medal at Asian championship held at New Delhi, India. Where she beat Vietnam in pre-quarterfinal by a score of (10-0)and in quarterfinal she won from Kyrgyzstan and in semi final she made Kazakhstan girl to bite dust and in final she lost to current world champion Ayoka Shoda and won silver for the nation.

- Won GOLD at Junior Asian Championship.

2005
- Won Silver Medal at Sr. Asian championship held at china.
- Won Gold Medal at Common Wealth Championship and declared best wrestler of the games, first Indian women wrestler to get "Best Wrestler of Commonwealth Games" title.
- Won Silver Medal at World Championship held at lithuania.
2006
- Won silver Medal at 15th ASIAN GAMES held at Doha,Qatar. She is the first women wrestler in Indian wrestling history to win a silver at such a extravagant event, she repeated her medal winning streak after winning a bronze at 2014 Asian Games.
2007
- Won Silver Medal at Commonwealth Championship held at 2007-07-16 London (CAN).
- Won Gold Medal at Senior National championship.
- Won Gold Medal at National Games held at Guhati (Assam).
2008
- Participated in Olympic Qualification Tournament Female wrestling Seniors 2008-05-31 Haparanda (SWE) and got 5th place by losing the semifinal to Vaseva, Elina (SWE) in the last 5 second otherwise that will yield the first ever women wrestler Olympic qualified from India.
- Won Gold Medal at Senior National championship.
2012
- Won Gold Medal at Senior National championship.
2013
- Won Bronze Medal at Sr. Asian Championship held at Asian Championship Female wrestling Seniors (2013-04-18) New Delhi (IND).
2014
