Gary Thornton

Gary Thornton is a rugby league coach who coached Castleford Tigers [1] U20's academy side from 2009 to 2012.

Gary spent 6 years as head coach at Batley Bulldogs (the longest serving Championship coach at the time), and also spent time as U21's coach at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.[2]

As a player he spent 4 seasons at Wakefiled Trinity before joining Batley RLFC in 1990. He went on to make over 220 appearances for the club scoring 89 tries.

Head Coach at York City Knights between 2012 and 2014.

Has won the coach of the year award in respective Championship divisions: 2006 - National League 1 (Now the Championship) Coach of The Year - Batley Bulldogs 2014 - Championship 1 Coach of the Year - York City Knights
