Gary Oliver (born 14 July 1995)[1] is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Championship, as a striker.

Club career

Heart of Midlothian

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Oliver joined Heart of Midlothian. A product of the youth academy, Oliver made his professional debut[2] for Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) in a Scottish League Cup tie against Raith Rovers on 27 August 2013, coming on as a substitute in the 55th minute replacing midfielder Scott Robinson.[3] Four days later, Oliver made his league debut for the club, coming on as substitute for Callum Tapping in the 61st minutes, in a 2-0 loss against Inverness CT[4]

Under the management of Gary Locke, Oliver was among youngsters to have an opportunity in the first team, amid of injury crisis, as a result of Hearts entering administration in June.[5] Oliver ended his first season at the club, making eight appearance, as Hearts would be relegated to the Scottish Championship. His season, however, was overshadowed when he injured his ankle during a match against Inverness CT and sidelined for three weeks.[6] At the end of the season, Oliver was offered a new contract to stay at Hearts.[7] Oliver then signed a one-year contract extension, just weeks after Hearts came out of administration.[8] On 23 August 2014, Oliver scored his first Hearts goal, in a 4-0 win over Raith Rovers.[9]

On 1 September 2014, Oliver joined Scottish League One club Stenhousemuir on loan until 5 January 2015.[10] Ironically, Oliver played against Stenhousemuir six days ago and scored in a 2-1 win.[11] Oliver scored his first goals for the club, in a 4-0 win over Stirling Albion on 19 October 2014.[12] However, on 19 December 2014, Oliver's loan was ended when he was recalled by Hearts, which he made eleven appearance and scoring twice.[13]

International career

In October 2013, Oliver was called up by Ricky Sbragia for the Scotland U19 squad[14] Oliver made his Scotland U19 debut, in a 1-1 draw with Germany U19[15] and then scored his first goal, in a 4-2 win over Switzerland U19.[16]
