Gary E. Dickerson

Gary E. Dickerson (born 1956) is a business leader in the semiconductor industry.^[1]

Dickerson is currently President (since 2012), Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors (since 2013) of Applied Materials, Inc. His total compensation for 2013 was: $10,319,469.^[2]

Employment history

Dickerson has over three decades of experience in the semiconductor industry together with a proven track record of attaining top customer satisfaction. Prior to his current role, he was CEO of Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc. He held that position for seven years, until the company was acquired by Applied Materials Inc. Prior to that, he worked at KLA-Tencor Corporation for 18 years in a variety of roles in Operations and Product Development. His key executive roles there were: President and Chief Operating Officer. His first positions in the industry was with General Motors’ Delco Electronics Division and AT&T Technologies, working in manufacturing and engineering management.^[3]

In 2011, Dickerson negotiated Applied Materials’ $4.9bn cash acquisition of Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc.^[4]

When Dickerson was appointed CEO of Applied Materials Inc., outgoing CEO Mike Splinter, said: “As president, Gary has proved to be an outstanding leader and partner, focusing Applied on new strategies for profitable growth through our unmatched strength in precision materials engineering. In the fall of 2013, Dickerson received the Semiconductor Industry Association’s Robert N. Noyce Award for his “outstanding achievements and leadership in support of the semiconductor industry.”^[5]
