Garnet (ガーネット Gānetto) is one of the three series mascots of the Jewelpet franchise and also an official supporting character of the Anime of the same name. She was first created by both Sanrio and Sega Sammy Holdings in 2008 by Cinnamoroll designer, Miyuki Okumura, portrayed as a female pink Persian Cat with a Pink Hexagon Jewel Necklace and a red ribbon on her right ear. The character was first introduced in January 15, 2008 alongside the other 33 Jewelpets.

Garnet is also one of the three official mascots of Jewelpet, alongside Ruby and Sapphie.

Character

In all official media, Garnet is described as a pink Persian Cat, usually with fluffy cheeks and a fluffy tail with a white chest fluff on her chest. She has pink garnets for eyes and her birthday is on January 8. Garnet is described as a prideful but a very hardworking character. Thought sometimes boasting about her beautiful coat.[1] Her Jewel Power is Love.[2]

As for her personality in the anime, Garnet is very girly in terms of personality: sassy, tough, likes the colour pink and cute stuff and sometimes hates really bad men. This personality is somewhat toned down in Jewelpet Twinkle but brought back when Sunshine aired, thought also known to be stylish and bold. This personality was carried over to the next series: Kira Deco. Unlike her personality in Sunshine, Garnet is more described as a rich person and sometimes assisted by people.

In the Anime

In the first series, Garnet is Minami's Jewelpet partner and is found after Minami confessed her weakness. Just like her human partner, Garnet loves the color pink and likes cute stuff like her human partner does. At first, she doesn't like her partner, but when Minami showed Garnet her bedroom, she finally changed her mind. Unlike Ruby, she has a bad temperament on all the three, usually doesn't like guys who were bad in nature. In Twinkle, she and Sango were both Miria's Jewepets, both performing magic along with her. She and Sango serve as Miria's consequence on what to do and also a very fashionable girl. She also has a crush on Dian.

In Jewelpet Sunshine, she is one of the students of Jewel Land's Sunshine Academy, admiring her pop idol, Nyanjelina. She is also a rival with Diana for the spotlight. Masago has a crush on her, but she usually never notices him. In Kira Deco, Garnet is born from a rich family in Jewel Town who likes fashionable stuff. She is also has a crush on one of the KiraDeco 5, Blue Knight and appointed him as her personal sheep. She is very affectionate to him to the point on him following her around.

In Happiness, Garnet is one of Ruby's Friends who is given a mission to make friends and open the Jewelpet Cafe. Her job in the cafe is a waitress, later into the new owner and is a steady worker. However she can get a bit greedy sometimes.

In Lady, Garnet serves as Mizuki's mentor in the Jewel Palace. In contrast to Mizuki's tomboyish nature, Garnet is very lady-like and fashionable unlike her. However she is challenged in a rather upsetting way on how to make Mizuki into a true lady.

Garnet didn't officially appear in Jewelpet: Magical Change or be part of the main cast.

Skills

Other than her magic skills, Garnet demonstrate good special skills regarding fashion, knowing which clothing is good for the wearer or choosing a good dress. Sometimes this overwhelms her overall personality. As shown in Sunshine, Garnet also has a good knowledge in sewing her own clothes and works for the Strawberry Cafe on her part-time job.

Garnet's magic skills were in the "Glass Class" ranking, on which her magic can have a success rate of 50%. She herself earned the Crystal Class in the later episodes in the first series. She can also wield a miniaturized version of the Jewel Stick for her magic or with Ruby and Sapphie, to summon other Jewelpets from Jewel Land.

Garnet also possesses a Jewel Pod as well. In Kira Deco, its decorated with lots of jewels which matches her personality. But she also uses it to cast her magic spells.

In other media

Garnet, alongside Ruby and Sapphie were all featured in several types of Sanrio merchandise, including toys, bags, raincoats, stationery items and video games. The character also appears as a Kigurumi mascot in both Sanrio Puroland and Sanrio Harmonyland, appearing in musicals and events alongside other Sanrio characters.

She also made an appearance in the Nintendo DS game Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends, making it the first time Garnet appeared in a game outside Japanese shores.
