Garhi Pukhta is a town and a nagar panchayat in Shamli district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Garhi Pukhta had a population of 12,104. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Garhi Pukhta has an average literacy rate of 44%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 52%, and female literacy is 36%. In Garhi Pukhta, 21% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Many a families have added values to the glory of this historic town. One of them is "Sharma's" family, whose ancestors Late Mr. Vishnu Dutt Sharma (Indian Freedom Fighter - non co-operation movement) helped the growth of this town. The town has a big bazaar, and in the past nearby villagers used to come at least once to this bazaar on Sunday, which used to be called "Haat". Though nowadays this town has better connectivity by buses to nearby villages and towns, and hence instead of one day's main trading, now the entire week has good trading.

This town has a good blend of different communities, and there have never been any unwanted disputes amongst them. Most of the population of this town is "Farmer", and each one of them works hard to get better crop out of his fields. It helps all of them to get better livelihood, more ease to their life and raising the living standards. This town has a higher secondary college by the name of "Jawaharlal Nehru College" and a high school which is locally known as "Bees wala school", though officially it is "Lal bahadur Shastari Junior High School".

This town has a post office, two banks, a government school, A girl's college, hospitals for both animals and human beings and many private schools. One of the oldest school has been by the name of "Adarsh Bal Vidya Mandir", This school is one of the oldest in this town and has given many good scholars, who in turn are now highly reputed and good earning either private of government job officers across India.

Having agriculture its main livelihood in nearby areas too, most farmers belong to "Jaat" community, who are very hard worker in their job. They plough the field, take care of crops and yield good grains, helping maintain good economy in this area. Muslims have equally a good share and importance there. Main crops of this area are sugar cane, grain, rice only. This area generally faces a shortage of electricity. Most of time there are power cuts, and on an average there is an electric supply of 6–8 hours a day only. There have been instances where due to technical reasons, there have not been any power supply for 10–15 days also.

Recent developments are taking this town towards new growth. A new B.Ed college has been set up in the midst of greenery, and the view of the nearby location from this college's building has a capacity to attract anybody. One newly launched school cum college is being set up.

Mr. Amir Alam Khan, who belongs to this town, has been selected as an M.L.A. and later on as an M.P also. During his tenure he had been given a responsibility as "Transport Minister" too. No need to say his name adds value to this town. This town is home to a settlement of the Baloch community.

All roads of this town are well maintained, and most of the electricity polls have either bulbs or electric tubes to keep the roads lighted at night. Major places like main bazaar chowk etc., have been electrified with the help of solar power, and this equipment helps people to avoid any mishaps at night, in the absence of electricity. Garhi pukhta located 13 km.far from distt Shamli in north west direction and surrounded by nearly village Audri, Pelkha,purmaphi,bheswal,haripur,razhar,Kherki and Hasanpur.Garhi pukhta is also famous for its Baags(Garden)near bus stand bada bag,on rajhar road"Naudha BAAG"and near jawahar lal inter college Alam miyawala baag is its beauty.Large numberof Youth of Garhi pukhta are servicing in government sector ie.Delhi Police,Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax,UP Police,Railway,cisf and many other armforces.All FestivalHoli,diwali, Ied celebreated with religious forward."Gugga ka mela" have its specific importeence.
