Gareth Wayne Davies (born 23 March 1972 in Coventry) is a retired English rugby union fly-half, who played for First Division side Barkers Butts. His primary position was fly-half, but he often played at centre.

International career

Davies played for England Schools Under 17 during 1988 and 1989 making 6 appearances and scoring 38 points in the British Isles Schools tournament and various friendlies. He made a man of the match performance against Wales Schools Under 17 kicking 12 points, 4 kicks from 4. This knack of finding the posts stuck all through Davies' short and prosperous career.

Instead of moving up to the Under 18 England Schools team Davies was called up to the first team squad for the upcoming six nations after being noted as an 'exciting young prospect' by the then current first team head coach. Davies featured in all of the six nations fixtures scoring a memorable drop goal against Italy.

Davies went on to represent England in 3 more six nations tournaments and 7 friendlies scoring a further 31 points. While playing for England Davies was one of the crucial players in that generation of England teams.

Club career

Davies played for West Midlands side Barkers Butts during their peak. The club were then competing in the First division, now named the Aviva Premiership. Unsurprisingly Davies was again a star player for Butts scoring the majority of their points. Fly-half is known to be a key position in rugby and Davies proved he had star quality while playing there.

Davies was capped 151 times by Barkers scoring a staggering 363 points for them in the 5 years he was there. Davies' is another notable player in the growing Butts' history.

Injury

During a First Division match against Worcester Davies slipped a disk in his lower back during a tackle with a Worcester forward. This brought an end to Davies' rugby career prematurely.
