Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation

The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation (GBFI) is a specialized division of Ireland's national police force, the Garda Síochána, that investigates financial fraud and other matters of monetary loss through illegal means. The bureau operates as part of the Gardaí's National Support Services branch, and works alongside other parts of the force's branches and units, as well as the external Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, an agency tasked with investigating white collar crime. It was established in April 1996 and is responsible for investigating cases of monetary and financial fraud in Ireland. The GBFI has five divisions:

  1. Commercial fraud Investigation and assessment
  2. Money laundering
  3. Cheque, credit card and currency fraud
  4. Computer and Internet crime
  5. Corporate fraud
