Gangwar

Gangwar (गंगवार) is a community within the larger Kurmi Indian caste of North India.^[1] A farming community, it is native to the Gangetic plains of the Central Doab and Rohilkhand regions of North India. Gangwars are mainly found in the districts of Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit and Farukhabad.

The community claims Kshatriya status and a descent from the mythical Suryavansha dynasty. Its name is derived from the Ganges river.

• Kesar Singh Gangwar: Member of Legislative Council from Bareilly-Rampur.
• Usha Gangwar: Ex Zila Panchyat AdhyakshBareilly.
• Virendra Gangwar: Member of Legislative Assembly from Bhojipura.
• Chetram Gangwar: Served as minister in Uttar Pradesh. He represented Nawabganj assembly seat in Bareilly for 22 years.
• Parshuram Gangwar: Represented Pilibhit as Member of Parliament from 1991 to 1996.
• Harish Kumar Gangawar: Former Jail Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
• Virendra Singh: Member of Legislative Assembly from Bithari Chainpur.
