Gandhi Global Family is a global Gandhian Movement, federation of Gandhian institutions worldwide, founded to propagate ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave and Nirmala Deshpande and to develop friendship at people’s level and established people to people contact amongst different countries of the world.

Objectives

The objectives of the organization are:

To raise awareness of "social evils" among students.
To provide affordable access to quality education and medical facilities.
To commemorate front-runner freedom fighters.
To celebrate national and international importance days.
To explore markets for Indian artisans.
To encourage demilitarization of the conflicting zones across the country.

Organization structure

GGF has a president and Vice President. Currently Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad is president and Padmashri S.P. Varma is vice president of GGF.^[1]

Activities

Padyatra and Parikrama Around the Country

GGF organized Sadbhavana Padyatra, or Peace March, across the country in general & J&K in particular. Additionally, GGF organized and participated in several Padyatras for spreading the message of peace and harmony in various parts of country from 1990-2012. Since 1992, GGF has been organizing exposure trips for thousands of Gandhian thought workers from J&K State to other parts of the country on a regular basis to participate in Annual Conventions.

Gandhians Parikrama for Peace

Gandhians Parikrama was flagged off on 17th Oct 2010 from Kanyakumari to propagate the message of peace, harmony, integration, and to create awareness about social evils prevailing in our society.

Phase I

The Vice President of Gandhi Global Family coordinated Gandhian's Parikrama around the country from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, led by young Gandhian Shri P. Maruthi of Chennai, following South-Eastern Ghat from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and back following Central, Western Ghat. The Parikrama took 110 days from October 17, 2010 – January 1, 2011 to spread the message of peace, harmony, & to create awareness for the eradication of social evils in the militancy affected Jammu and Kashmir state. The Parikrama was led by WHO from 7th – 21st Dec. 2010, where 18 out of 22 Districts were visited and 2800 km was covered in 15 days.

Phase II

Started from Hydrabad, Bhubaneshwar, Siliguri, Guwahati, Dispur, Kohima, Imphal, Aizawl, Agartala, Shillong^[2] & Itanagar. Covering over thousands km to spread the message of Peace, Harmony & to create awareness for eradication of Social Evils.^[3]

GGF President Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad flagged off Gandhi Global Family Youth delegation from Jammu for UK, US and Canada to spread Gandhian message

Phase III

Delhi-Chennai-Andaman-Nicobar Islands & back via Kolkata.^[3]

Final Phase IV

This phase is scheduled to cover the remaining areas of the country in 2013, such as Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Goa, Diu-Daman, Dadar-Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep Islands & Puducherry.^[4]

Institutionalized Gandhi Medals

Institutionalized Gandhi Doot Medal^[5] for students & Gandhi Seva Medal^[6] for the grass root workers who are working for the rural communities and have dedicated their life to the Gandhian way of living and created awareness among youth & rural community.
A team of Young Gandhian visited UK
Decorated Indian Army and Indian Air force Chiefs with “Mahatma Gandhi Award” on 30 January 2006 at Jammu. The awards were presented by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad for their commendable work during the earth – quake calamity (2005) in J&K State.
A team of GGF Young Gandhian got a chance to interact with Gandhi Global Family President Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad.The young team was delighted to meet their mentor on the occasion of Eid-Ul_Fitr in New Delhi
Other esteemed dignitaries like His Holiness Dalai Lama, then President of India Shri K R Narayanan,Monk Ven Phrarajabhavanavisudh, UPA Chairperson & President of INC Smt Sonia Gandhi, Speaker Lok Sabha Smt Meira Kumar, YHAI President Shri Harish Saxena are decorated with this medal.^[6]

GGF Young Gandhian movement

To promote the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India.
To cherish and follow the noble ideas and to protect and improve the natural environment and encourage sustainable development.
By organizing seminars, conferences and conducting free legal aid camps and medical camps.
School students remembering Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti.

By organizing National integration camps, cultural exchange programs & summer school/college workshops.

By organizing debate on "The relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's twin principles" & Gandhi Quiz in educational institutions across the nation.

By organizing Symposium/Convention/Summit on the important issues concerned with the youth of the nation.

By organizing Mentorship programs for the youth.
