Gambitious is a Dutch website for crowdfunding game development. Its legal framework is a cooperative. Members join and purchase credits. These are invested in game projects in exchange for a share of future profits. Projects must reach a funding goal in order to get funds.
Gambitious was founded by Paul Hanraets in 2012. He was inspired by the success of the game funding project for Double Fine Adventure on Kickstarter. The site is primarily for independent game developers. The site has a “crowdfunding accreditation” from crowdsourcing.org.[1][2][3][4][5]
On March 20, 2013, Train Fever was the first project crowdfunded via Gambitious.[6]
