The Galway Warriors are an Irish American Football team formed in 2012, and located in Galway City. The team currently competes in IAFL-2 of the Irish American Football League. They will play their home games at St. Mary's College, Galway in 2015.
History
Founded in 2012 by several followers of the NFL, and with help from local media sources, interest has increased significantly.
With over 20 years combined experience from Head Coach Patrick Costello and Assistant Coach Adrian Paredes, the team will be sure to make itself known within the Irish American Football league!
2014
The Warriors first competitive game was a 36-0 road defeat to the Tyrone Titans which was followed by a 2-0 home loss to the South Kildare Soldiers. On June 15 they travelled to Dundalk to take on the Mavericks but a combination of injuries and exhaustion to an already depleted squad lead to a 27-0 loss. A first win in team history was secured with a road 13-6 win over the South Kildare Soldiers thanks to Simon Lynskey's game winning interception return for a TD. The Warriors scored 10 unanswered points in the final quarter to come away with the victory. However, a 46-0 home defeat to the Tyrone Titans the following week left them with a 1-4 record for the season. On the last game of the season the Dundalk Mavericks came to town and won with a 24-0 scoreline. The Warriors concluded their inaugural season with a 1-5 record.
2015
The Warriors played their first game of the 2015 season against their main rivals, the South Kildare Soldiers, on the 19th of April. The Warriors won the home game, 12-0. The team now hit the road on the 3rd of May to play West Dublin Rhinos 2nds in Castleknock, Dublin.
