Galloway by-election, 1959

The Galloway by-election of 9 April 1959 was held after the death of Unionist MP (MP) John Mackie:^[1]

The seat was safe, having been won by the Conservatives at the United Kingdom general election, 1955 by 8,014 votes^[2]
