Galician parliamentary election, 1993
The Galician parliamentary election of 1993 was held on Sunday, 19 October 1993 to elect members to the Parliament of Galicia. With a census of 2,293,169 voters, 1,472,017 (64.2%) participated in the elections, with 821,152 of abstentions (35.8%). The People's Party of Galicia won again with an absolute majority, and Manuel Fraga Iribarne was ellected again president of Galicia. The PSdeG had a crisis of leadership and lost many votes, while the Galician Nationalist Bloc began to appear as the main alternative to power thanks to the charisma of his spokesman, Xosé Manuel Beiras. The coalition of EU and the PSG-EG (Galician Unity) did not enter the parliament due to the new electoral law, that required a 5% of the votes to gain a seat (before the change only a 3% was required). Galician Coalition also failed to enter the parliament, and only got 6,098 votes. The other political parties did not obtain parliamentary representation.
