Galatasaray (district)
Galatasaray is a neighbourhood in the Beyoğlu (Pera) district of Istanbul, the largest city of Turkey, on the European side.
Galatasaray S.K., one of the most famous football clubs of Turkey, originated in this quarter, being established in 1905 in Galatasaray Square, where Galatasaray High School, formerly known as the Mekteb-i Sultani (School of the Sultans) also stands.
Galatasaray literally means "Galata Palace".[1]
There is a 50th Anniversary of Republic monument sculpted by Şadi Çalık in the square.
