Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary School (SSS) affectionately known as 'GT' is a government secondary school in Ongwediva, Oshana Region, Namibia. The school officially opened its academic doors in 1988, and was officially inaugurated in 1989 by then SWAPO Deputy Minister Buddy Wentworth. Its principal is Eelu Sakaria.[1] The school is one of the top performing schools in the country, with numerous accolades and awards under its wings in consecutive years.[2] It has around 800 learners annually, assisted by about 30 teachers,with course specialisations in science, humanities and commerce.It is the centre of academic excellence in northern Namibia.

Academic staff

Notable academic instructors over the years include;Mm. Kavalela, Mm. Naholo, Mrs Mbangula, Mr Munduda, Mr Johannes, Mr Haimbodi, Mr Kaholongo, and (the Doctor) Mr Haimbili.

Sports and entertainment

The school has incorporated a wide range of sport activities in it is curricula, and it is highly involved in a lot of sporting competitions nationally, such as; netball and soccer- the teams have won numerous awards and medals over the years.[3][4]

Achievements

The school is well equipped with a colossal computer laboratory, physical science lab and a biology lab as well with a variety of equipments to accommodate the basic learning process. There are a variety of sport codes and extramural activities such as soccer, chess, cricket, netball, basketball, debate just to enlist a couple in which learners can excel besides their academic achievements.

This school also helped in grooming good football players, like Benson Shilongo, Esko Kavela, Benjamen Hauwanga and Johannes Iithete both well known footballers in Namibia.
