The GRSE ASW-SWC corvettes are vessels ordered for the Indian Navy from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). They are in the 700 ton range and able to operate in shallow waters to hunt for submarines.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) cleared the acquisition of 16 shallow water anti-submarine vessels to replace the Abhay class of vessels currently in service.[1] The vessel will be armed with torpedoes, rockets and two 12.7 mm remote control guns. India’s Ministry of Defence has issued a tender to local shipyards worth $2.25 billion program. The tender is issued under “Buy and Make India” The vessels would replace Russian-made Abhay-class corvettes commissioned in 1989 and 1991.the tender was issued to private sector firms, including Larsen & Toubro, ABG Shipyard, Pipavav Defense and Offshore Engineering, Goa Shipyard Ltd. and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers.
