Fulgazi, or Phulgazi,[1] is a municipal sub-district of the Feni District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is situated in the northern part of Feni and is noted as the ancestral place of two-time former prime minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia. Natural beauty of this area is amazing. The rivers Muhuri, Selonia, and Kahuya increase its importance. Fulgazi is approximately 130 kilometres from the capital, Dhaka. The place earned its reputation as an 'Upazila,' or translated to English as municipal sub-District on the year 2002, when Begum Khaleda Zia visited the place to inaugurate numerous projects. The administrative offices of the Fulgazi sub district is run by a sub-district Chairman, elected by the people. Kismot ghonia mora is one of the village of fulgazi. There are a historical home named Chowdhury bari. Mohammad Martuja founded it.

Famous personalities

Noted Late journalist A. B. M. Musa, a son of Kutubpur and valiant freedom fighter Zafar Imam Bir Bikram, son of Nowapur,Hazi Master Bazlur Rahman son of Noapur, Brigadier General (Rtrd) Amin Ahammed, son of Hassanpur were born in Fulgazi upazila. Mr. Zakaria Bhuiyan, pioneer of garments industries in Bangladesh, Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Late Adv. Lutful Hoque Mozumder, Mr. Azizzu Haque (Ex. Secretary), Late Kazi Farid Ahmed (Ex. Joint Secretary), Mr. Md. Abdul Fattah, Mr. Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan of Jagotpur village have made good reputation in their activities like as garments industries, laws & administration, information technologies & financing sectors in Bangladesh. Jammura a frontier village under New Munshir hat union is renowned for its industrious people who built up a bridge over the river Silonia without government assistance in 1985. The uncles, aunts & couzins of the ex Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was born in Fulgazi. Her House is named as Majumder Bari in Fulgazi. Her Unlce is Jamshed Hossain Majumder. Haji Mazharul Hossain Mazumdar or Hazrat Kebla Pir Pagla Darbesh was a leading and famous Pir (or Muslim pious man) of Fulgazi. He is a couzin of the uncle of Begum Khaleda Zia. His final resting place is at a Shrine at Fulgazi's South Sreepur near Fulgazi's Eskandaria Mosque. It is believed that Begum Khaleda Zia became the Prime Minister of Bangladesh because she was blessed by the Pir.And Mr. Maksod Ahamed,S/O.Late Moulvi Abdul Majid (Ana Mia Moulvi) DDG, Bangladeh Bureau of Statistics (Retd.), vill. North Ananda Pur (Ana Mia Moulvi Bari), PO. Munshir Hat, Upazila : Fulgalzi. Now he is Projects Director of IUBAT University, Uttara, Dhaka.His Younger brother Mr. Ruhul Amin also Govt. Service holder in Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Mr.Ruhul Amin's two sons Service Holder of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, 1. Nurul Amin 2. Nizam Uddin. Mentioned here that Prof.(Retd) Md Shamsuddin Elias was Principal Feni Govt college, his vill.is Kutub pur, 2no. Munshirhat union. and Md. Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Associate Professor, now he is Vice Principal of Feni Govt. College his vill. is North Ananda pur, Union : 2no Munshir hat.It is notable that Md.Shamsul Arifin,S/O.Md.Abdul Mannan,M.A(D.U),former statistics officer,Vill.Jammura, has joined in Bangladesh Air Force as GD(Pilot),now taking 2yrs intensive training in Jessore.Md.Shamsul Arifin did his H.S.C from Notre Dame College and before joining air force he was a student of Physics dept, Dhaka University. One of popular icon in Fulgazi was Late Mr. Azharul Haq Majumder from South Sreepur.

Geography

This upazila is blocked by India on two sides, east and west. Prarashuram upazila is in its north on the other hand Chagalnaiya is in its south. West frontier union is New Munshir Hat and east frontier Union is Amzadhat. Darbarpur, GM Hat & Hassanpur are also famous unions.

Jagotpur, Sreepur, Hassanpur, Nurpur, Nilakhi, Darbarpur, Nowapur, Bandhua are densely populated villages in the Fulagazi Upazilla.

The roads at Fulgazi are of very good condition. The residents of Fulgazi have access to utilities such as mobile telecommunication, pure water, gas and electricity. Tourist services remains minimal, but since the roads are in good condition, people from around the world have access to Fulgazi by car from Dhaka. There were no hotels in Fulgazi. There are only a handful of local restaurants and a VIP rest house. Bricks, agricultural products, rice & fisheries are main export products in Fulgazi. Fulgazi also has banks, number of maternity clinics and schools. The medical facilities were not modern.

Fulgazi has people from all faiths. The majority is Muslim and some Hindus & Buddhists. There were numbers of mosques and temples in Fulgazi.

Fulgazi has thousands of species of local and migratory birds. Fishing & bird watching were a popular tourist activity. People of Fulgazi were warm & hospitable.

Fulgazi has a cold and dry winter temperatures ranging from 4 degrees Celsius to 7 degrees Celsius. Summers are hot and wet with monsoon rains and storms.
