Frontiers in Bioscience is a peer reviewed academic journal. The Frontiers in Bioscience, usually referred to as Front Biosci, is the official journal of the Frontiers in Bioscience (FBS). FBS is important scientific journal that printed its first issue in 1996 and continues to publish highly cited research articles, reviews, books, letters, and databases. Coverage in FBS broadly spans all biological, and medical sciences.
History
FBS was established by the Frontiers in Bioscience in 1996, with its first issue published on January 1, 1996. The FBS was founded in 1995 as a private non-profit institution with the goal to "support research, education and teaching".
Editors
The following persons have been editors of the journal:
- 1996–Present: Editor-in-Chief; Siamak Tabibzadeh, MD
- 1996–Present: Managing Editors[1]
Peer review
All research papers published in FBS are peer-reviewed. The standard model is for papers to be submitted directly to managing editors rather than going through FBS. FBS managing editors may handle the peer review process for up to 4 of their own papers per year—this is an open review process because the managing editors select and communicate directly with the referees. The review process for papers remains anonymous in that the identities of the referees are not revealed to the authors.
Editorial Profile
Frontiers in Bioscience offers three distinct journals: Landmark, Scholar and Elite. The Landmark edition is dedicated to the publication of comprehensive reviews in molecular medicine. The Scholar edition is composed of reviews in basic and clinical science. The Elite edition focuses on primary research articles in all fields of biology and medicine, technical notes and protocols, multimedia medicine online (videos, sounds, images, VRML), databases, proceedings of national and international conferences, and lectures.
Ranking
FBS ranks #69 out of 261 journals in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Indexing/Abstracting
Frontiers in Bioscience is indexed in PubMed, INDEX Medius, MEDLINE, Research Alert, Current Web Content, and CrossRef. Landmark Edition: PubMed, INDEX Medicus, MEDLINE, Research Alert, Current Web Content, CrossRef Scholar and Elite Editions: PubMed, Index Medicus, MEDLINE, CrossRef
Impact
FBS is widely read by researchers around the world, particularly those involved in basic sciences. FBS receives over 1 million hits per month.[2]
FBS is self-sustaining and receives no direct funding from the U.S. government.
