Biography

2004-2006: Career Beginnings

Wexler began his career in the record business as Sony Music's youngest intern while pursuing his own songwriting efforts on the side. In 2004, Wexler was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania, where he went on to record his first demo. In 2006, he discovered fellow New York City songwriter, Stefani Germonatta (aka Lady Gaga) who hired him to produce her original demos. Wexler presented Germonatta to his bosses as “the next Madonna” but was met with resistance. The two ended up developing a close friendship along with music that garnered highly lucrative contracts for each of them. Wexler's singing and writing allegedly earned him one of the largest record deals in 2006.[2]

2006-2007: Record Deal

Shortly after inking a deal with Virgin Records under the artist name “Freddy,” Wexler took a leave of absence from school and moved to Los Angeles to work on his debut album. Months into the recording process, however, Virgin merged with Capitol Records, resulting in a spending freeze for all new artists. Wexler bought back the rights to his music and resolved to focus on his career as a writer.[3]

2007-2008: Collaborations

Wexler's first commercial success was as a producer on a single for singer Marion Raven (of Norwegian pop duo M2M) which he coproduced with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe. After inking a major publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing, Wexler began working with a large variety of producers and mixers, including Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More, Train), Matt Squire (Boys Like Girls, Panic at the Disco), John Feldmann (The Used, Story of the Year, Atreyu, Ashlee Simpson), the Wizardz of Oz (Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears), Russ Dessalvo (Celine Dion, Marc Anthony), Shep Goodman (Vitamin C, Marcy Playground, LFO), Jimmy Harry (Kelly Clarkson, Pink), Tim Palmer (U2, Goo Goo Dolls, Duran Duran), Serban Ghenea (Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Katy Perry), Tom Lord-Alge (Fall Out Boy, Oasis, Rolling Stones), Chris Lord-Alge (Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, All American Rejects), Ron Saint Germaine (Michael Jackson, Creed, Bad Brains), and Tony Maserati (Beyoncé, Notorious B.I.G., Jason Mraz). During this time, Wexler also wrote the promo-theme songs for the hit TV-shows "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelorette.”[4]

2008-2009: Kidd Kraddick in the Morning

In 2008, Wexler returned to college. Within his first month back, he received an ON-AIR phone call from celebrity morning show host Kidd Kraddick (whose show boasts the largest drive-time audience in America). Kraddick proposed a challenge—to drive from Philadelphia to Texas, playing shows along the way. Wexler accepted and embarked on what stations across the country promoted as the “Freddy Needs Gas Tour.” He received nearly $10,000 of fan donations in just four days, which he donated to Kraddick's charity: Kidd's Kids. The positive response to Wexler's music lead to his move to Dallas, where he became a guest host on "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning," the largest syndicated music morning show in America. Based out of Texas, and stretching across 75 cities across the country, Wexler became a poster-child for independent pop music, performing on major television morning shows and sharing the stage with acts like Maroon 5, Good Charlotte, Paramore, Katy Perry, Forever the Sickest Kids, The New Temptations, Gym Class Heroes, Simple Plan, Ryan Cabrera, and Colbie Caillat.[5]

Independently, Wexler's music achieved chart-topping success; his song "Defying Gravity" peaked and stayed at Number One on Satellite Radio, while “Closer to Heaven” peaked at #27 on terrestrial.

2009-2010: Management

In 2010, Wexler returned to Philadelphia and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. Wexler moved back to New York City and started a music management company, where he represented several recording artists such as Matthew Johnson (Disney's Next Big Thing finalist) and Rachel Platten (Rock Ridge Music), as well as a handful of established models. In August 2010, Wexler signed a recording contract with Roxy Recordings, a Swedish record label. In September, the label released a teaser single, “Where There Is Love (I'll Be There),” which became the #1 played YouTube video in Sweden, Russia, France, Argentina, and South Africa. Focused on developing talent, Wexler struck a deal with Roxy to terminate his recording contract before the album was released.[6]

2011-Present: The Brain

In February 2011, Wexler founded The Brain Music (TBM), a cross-platform record label, artist management company, and publishing company.[7]
