Francisco Alves Albino, best known as Albino (2 November 1912 – 25 February 1993), was a Portuguese footballer. Nicknamed "O Tempero" (the sauce/the spice), he had a notable run for S.L. Benfica in its early days.
Career
He started playing for S.L. Benfica in 1932, as a midfielder. He was the Boss of Benfica midfield, his presence in the center of the pitch was well noticed by his opponents. He won seven championships and was considered indispensable both in Benfica squad and Portugal National Football Team.
He was known for being a modest person, not very concerned about money, but he used to joke after the game about the winning prizes, he used to say "Quando é que vem o tempero?" (When is the "sauce" coming?) referring to the winning prize money.
He played for 13 years with the Benfica jersey, and has received two honours for his dedication to the club Sócio de Mérito (Merit Member) and Águia de Prata (Silver Eagle) .
National team
He made his debut for Portugal, against Spain in a 3-3 draw back in 1934. He was capped 10 times.
