Francesco Stella (born 25 July 1991) is an Australian football (soccer) player who currently plays for Sisaket.

Career

Club career

Whilst in Australia he played for South Melbourne FC, making 17 appearances for the first team. In 2009, at the age of 18 he went to Italy where he was offered a 3-year contract by Siena. However, he failed to make a single first team appearance for the Italian club. From 2011 to 2012, he went out on loan to Italian Lega Pro club U.S. Borgo a Buggiano 1920, making 20 appearances and scoring 4 goals for the club. He later moved to financially troubled side Rangers F.C. for the start of the 2012-13, before returning to Australia with Melbourne Victory, without making a first-team appearance.[1] He scored in and 3-1 friendly match win over Falkirk at Ibrox stadium. Stella was incorrectly recorded as a used sub during a match against Elgin City in December 2012 when it was actually Francisco Sandaza,[2] midfielder Fraser Aird was also incorrectly listed as the goalkeeper by many media sources.[3]

Melbourne Victory

On 17 January 2013, it was confirmed that Stella had signed a two and a half year deal with Melbourne Victory after impressing coach Ange Postecoglou, becoming their third signing of the summer, along with Jesse Makarounas and Scott Galloway.[4][5] He made his debut for the Victory in The Big Blue match against Sydney FC, coming on as a substitute for Marcos Flores in the 76th minute of the match. The Victory ended up winning the game 3-1, courtesy of goals from Marco Rojas and Archie Thompson. He made his second appearance for the Victory in the Melbourne derby against Melbourne Heart on 2 February 2013, coming on as a substitute for Marco Rojas in the 88th minute. The Victory ended up winning 2-1, with goals from Archie Thompson and Mark Milligan. He made first start, and his third appearance, for the Victory in The Cross Border Rivalry clash against Adelaide United. However, unlike his previous 2 games, the Victory lost 1-0, courtesy of a Jerónimo Neumann goal.

Stella spent the majority of the 2013-14 season playing in the National Youth League, scoring 8 goals.

Stella was released by the Victory in July 2014. He had made just 7 appearances during his time at the Victory.[6][7]
