Frame conservation

Frame conservation describes the process through which picture frames are preserved. The most common aspects of the process of frame conservation involve replicating missing decorative elements, and cleaning, gilding, and toning frame surfaces.[1]

Gilding

Gilding, in the context of frame preservation, describes the process by which metal leaf is applied to a frame to restore areas of the preexisting leaf that have damage.
