Four Heatons

Four Heatons is the name used to describe the four individual neighbourhoods of Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel, Heaton Mersey and Heaton Norris.[1] Collectively, it forms a suburban area of Stockport which borders on to the City of Manchester, England.[1] It is a commuter zone, with greenbelt and a conservation area,[1] and is coterminous with the SK4 postcode district.[2]

The opening of railway stations, first at Heaton Norris in 1840 and then at Heaton Chapel & Heaton Moor in 1853 (renamed 'Heaton Chapel' in 1947[3]) resulted in the suburbanization of the Four Heatons.

Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel, Heaton Mersey and Heaton Norris each have their own individual high street and centre, but retain a common "vibrant" retailing theme, with bars, delis and independent music and cinema.[1]

In 2009 local businesses and traders formed a voluntary organisation in the area called The Four Heatons Traders Association.[2] This organisation is partly funded and supported by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, and has become a focal point for community regeneration projects.[2]
