Forus

Forus is an industrial district in the borough Hinna in Stavanger, Norway. It borders to the Gandsfjord and stretches south and west to the municipalities Sandnes and Sola. The name Forus originates from a farm, part of which is currently used for harness racing.[1]

The drainage of the former Stokkavatnet (4 km²) with surrounding march area, from 1906 and onwards, gave 4.5 km² new land for the nearby farms. In 1940, at the start of World War II, the German occupants initiated construction of an airport. The area has later been developed mainly for industry purposes.[2] The Statoil headquarters are located at Forus.
