Fort Kinnaird

Fort Kinnaird is a large outdoor retail park located off the A1 in the south-east of Edinburgh, Scotland. It opened in 1989.

It is owned by the Gibraltar Limited Partnership, owned 50/50 by the Crown Estate and The Hercules Unit Trust, a Jersey based property unit trust. Gibraltar Limited Partnerships are often used to avoid or reduce UK tax payments.[1]

Shops range from larger units which include Smyths Toys, Currys PC World, Waterstones, M&S, Next, Argos, River Island, Sports Direct, Outfit Fashion, New Look, T.K. Maxx, HomeSense, WH Smith and Boots to smaller units such as mobile electronics, fashion, gifts and jewellery outlets.

Food chains are currently a McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru, Pizza Hut, three Costa Coffee There is a standalone unit, one inside WH Smith and one inside Odeon, Patisserie Valerie, Starbucks (within Waterstones), Greggs, Subway and M&S Cafe Revive. Late November and early December 2014 saw the arrival of Frankie and Benny's, TGI Fridays, Chiquito, Five Guys as well as Ed's Easy Diner, KFC and Caffè Nero which were all part of the £24 million extension plan.

Transport

Although Fort Kinnaird is within the city limits, it is also a popular destination with shoppers from East and Midlothian, particularly nearby Musselburgh and Dalkeith.

Further Development

Work began in late 2013 on a £24m extension to the park which will include a seven screen Odeon cinema, seven restaurants which are Ed's Easy Diner, Pizza Express, Five Guys, Nando's, TGI Friday's, Frankie & Benny's and Chiquito. Caffe Nero and a children’s play area has also been added to the park.

[2] It will occupy the area which formerly housed Megabowl, Chiquito, Frankie & Benny's and the previous UCI cinema, which were cleared in 2008..

New stores are in the process of being added too such as T.K.Maxx, HomeSense, (Both occupying previous Comet and JJB outlets and both are now open.) Primark is set to open a store as well. Other stores just added include Jacamo, Simply-Be and Fatface.

As of mid December 2014 Frankie and Benny's, TGI Fridays, Five Guys, Chiquito, Caffè Nero, Ed's Easy Diner, T.K.Maxx, HomeSense and Fatface have all opened their doors to customers leaving only Odeon to arrive in March 2015

On Friday 20th March, Odeon opened up to the public, completing the £24 million pound extension.

Only Primark is left to arrive.
