Form 13F
Form 13F is shorthand for the quarterly report filed, per SEC regulations,[1] by "institutional investment managers" to the SEC and containing all equity assets under management of at least $100 million in value.[2]
In general, an "institutional investment manager" is
- an entity that invests in, or buys and sells, securities for its own account; or
- a natural person or an entity that exercises investment discretion over the account of any other natural person or entity.[2]
These include banks, insurance companies, hedge funds, investment companies, foundations, and pension funds.[2]
Form 13F only reports long positions. Short positions are not required to be disclosed and are not reported.
