Forest Haven
Forest Haven was a children's developmental center and mental institution located in Laurel, Maryland.[1] The site was opened in 1925 and closed in 1991 after facing lawsuits regarding the patients of Forest Haven and a decline in a need for asylums in the United States. It's been said the building now sits on an unreserved plantation in a deserted area and is now known as one of Maryland's top 10 haunted places.
Overview
Forest Haven was notorious for its poor conditions and abuse of patients, using archaic treatments such as electroshock, hydrotherapy and lobotomy.[2] With declining conditions after decades of operation, the families of many patients filed lawsuits against the hospital for reasons of abuse, neglect, poor living conditions; even medical testing.
There is a cemetery on site where graves have been uncovered by erosion.[3]
