Flügge droplets

Flügge droplets are pathogen-containing particles (0,1–2 mm in diameter) of respiratory secretions expelled into the air by coughing, which are reduced by evaporation to droplet nuclei – small (smaller than 100 μ in diameter), dry particles that can remain airborne for long periods; this is one possible mechanism for transmission of infection from one individual to another (droplet infection).

They were named after Carl Flügge a German bacteriologist and hygienist.
