The first St Mary's Roman Catholic Church is a heritage-listed sandstone Catholic church, located at the corner of Palmerin and Wood Streets in Warwick in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia.
History
It was erected in 1864, and opened on 23 August 1865 by the first Bishop of Brisbane James O'Quinn. The priest was John Cani, who became the first Bishop of Rockhampton in 1882.[1][2]
The second St Mary's church was erected in 1926 at the same location.[1] The first church was then used as a school building and later as a meeting hall.[2]
Heritage listing
It was listed on the former Register of the National Estate[1][3][4] and on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992.[2]
