Festool is a brand of power tools belonging to the Festool Group GmbH & Co. KG (formerly Festool GmbH ), headquartered in Wendlingen. The company is a subsidiary of the TTS Tooltechnic Systems holding company. The company was founded by Gottlieb Stoll and Albert Fezer in 1925 under the name Fezer & Stoll to manufacture woodworking machinery.[1]

Festool is the inventor of the first portable chainsaw, the orbital sander, the portable circular saw with guide rail (called a track saw), the Domino jointer, the Systainer storage system, and various other devices.[2][3]

Festool has a number of international branches including Australia, United Kingdom and United States.[4] Their United States headquarters are located in Lebanon, Indiana.[5] The U.S. sector of Festool’s customers range from woodworkers, remodelers, cabinet makers, furniture builders, painters and could even be considered to stretch into construction at some points. Festool tools aren’t available to purchase at big box stores such as Home Depot and Lowes, but rather more specialized, smaller dealers that tend to attract the same type of customers that Festool targets, which are trade professionals. All of Festool’s marketing and messaging is geared towards customers who “use the tools on a daily basis to make a living”. Festool is known for the superior design, build, and ease of use of their tools, while also being known to be one of the most expensive brands of tools on the market. [6][7]

Notable about the product range of Festool is the way products integrate in the system of Festool. Most products are stored in Systainers by Tanos, which can connect to each other to additional storage containers.[8] The variety of dust extractors can extract dust from most Festool power tools, can hold items by vacuum[9] and can hold Systainers and tool holders. The Guide Rail allows circular saws, routers and jigsaws to be guided and it is also part of the MutiFunction tables which aid in more stationary work.
