Felipe Marino (born 1978) is an American independent film producer best known for his work on All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006) and The Wackness (2008) with Keith Calder and Joe Neurauter.
Career
Marino graduated from the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2004 before setting up a production company, Occupant Films, with his fellow USC graduates Keith Calder and Joe Neurauter.[1] The three producers teamed up because, according to Marino, "All of us have similar entrepreneurial spirits. We're united by the fact that we want everything to be the best it can be, and we're constantly pushing ourselves to do better."[2] Within a week of its founding, Occupant Films found its first script, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane by Jacob Forman, through a contact in USC's writing division.[2] After its completion, the film was screened at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival and was bought by The Weinstein Company, though it was re-sold and has yet to be released in the United States.[1] The trio's next project was The Wackness, which was written and directed by Jonathan Levine, with whom the producers had worked on All the Boys Love Mandy Lane.[3] Referring to their second collaboration with Levine, Calder said that "We want to continue working with strong, creative partners and build a long, lasting relationship with them." According to Neurauter, "We saw a lot doors open once we sold Mandy Lane, but it's a whole different level to have a movie [The Wackness] released. It gives you a totally different perception in the community." Marino stated that "The goal in the upcoming years is to do two to three movies per year", having completed two feature films since Occupant Films' founding.[1] In 2008, he was named one of Variety 's "10 Producers to Watch" alongside Calder and Neurauter.[1]
With Calder and Neurauter, he has a film in post-production, The Key Man by Peter Himmelstein; Barry Blaustein's Peep World; a police thriller written by Pat Healy and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo; and is developing a third script by Levine called Positive.[1]
Personal life
Marino was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, though he is now based in Los Angeles, California.[1]
