Feering is a village in Essex, England. Situated between Colchester and Witham, Feering has close ties with its geographically conjoined neighbour, Kelvedon.
Amenities
The village has three pubs, the oldest of which is The Old Anchor. However, on 14 July 2008 the Old Anchor pub suffered major damage caused by a fire which required 8 fire crews to contain and lasted over 3 hours.[1]
The nearest Post Office and convenience store is located in Kelvedon; the Old Post Office and shop which was situated on the Village Green ceased trading in the early 2000s.
Several large businesses have offices/trade-points in Feering, as there is relative easy access to the A12 and M11 (the latter via the A120).
The village also has good footpath links which weave through the fields and rural landscapes surrounding the village. The Essex Way is not far from the Northern boundary of the Parish.
Transport
From 1904 to 1951 the village was served by a halt on the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway. Feering has recently been threatened by the A120 proposal to construct a dual carriageway to the north of the village. This extension of the dual carriageway section of the A120 will stretch from the current A12 near Marks Tey to Braintree "cutting travelling time to Stansted by 10 minutes". The Highways Agency has not released information concerning new routes, which has angered some local residents, who oppose the new proposals.
Religion
All Saints Church
The parish church in Feering is now part of the United Benefice of Kelvedon and Feering. The church has stood at the centre of Feering for some 850 years. There are two services, Holy Communion 9AM every Sunday and Family Service 4PM first Sunday of each month. [2] The church is listed as a Grade I listed building with the English Heritage.[3]
Feering Mission
Feering Mission is an independent village church, opened in October 1907, located on Little Tey Road. It is part of the Fellowship for Evangelising Britain's Villages (FEBV). The current pastor is Paul Brown, who originates in North Wales and became pastor in January 2009. The church currently serves to assist all parties within the local community, working closely with the Scope Home Drummonds and the Feering Childminders' Association, as well as Feering Primary School, and has a close link with Co-op funeral services in Kelvedon.
