"Feel" is a J-pop song with lyrics written by Japanese singer-songwriter Kumi Koda and Hitoshi Shimono; Koda & Shimono wrote the lyrics together while Shimono wrote the music and arranged the song. The song appears on her 6th album Best: Second Session, and it is also the 6th single in her 12 Single Collection.
Despite being limited to 50,000 copies, the song managed to become her second #1 in the Japanese singles chart with only 39,110 copies sold. The song is a slow, mellow R&B-influenced love song, and is also the first Japanese Kumi Koda single to feature an entire chorus in English (the first Koda's song feature an entire chorus in English was 24, from Secret). The rest of the song is in Japanese with a few more phrases in English.
Cover
As with the other 11 singles in this collection, the cover of the single represents a stylized version of a traditional dress from a culture; this time it draws its inspiration from Spain and the costume of matadors.
Composition
The song is built up like a story Kumi is telling to a lover of hers. In the beginning she is reminiscing about a meeting they had and how she felt at the time that his Feelings for her were driving them apart. She then goes on to ponder on why she is feeling scared when she reads an e-mail she has received from her boyfriend, and that she seems to be unable to express her feelings for him. Then she makes a confession on how she understands that music can be a way of expressing her feelings for her lover, that she wants him to feel her heart and that they should dance together. Then she is back reminiscing about the day her boyfriend proposed to her, and how she felt that accepting his proposal was the perfect excuse to be together with him, although she might not have been ready for that kind of commitment. The song ends with her making a dishonest vow to her fiancée, telling him that from this day on they will be together.
