Faroese general election, 2015

General elections will be held in the Faroe Islands by 29 October 2015. There will be an elections for the Danish Folketing beforehand (in September at the latest).

Electoral system

The 33 members of the Løgting are elected by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency. Seats are allocated according to the d'Hondt method.[1]

Campaign

The ruling centre-right coalition led by Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen from the Union Party has consistently been behind in the polls, while the Social Democrats led by Aksel Johannesen have been ahead by a large margin.

In addition to the economy observers of Faroese politics expects the size of the Danish state grant and reception of Syrian war refugees to become important themes in the campaign.
